The Pelham Manor & Huguenot Heights Association was founded in 1873 shortly before the Panic of 1873 that led to the so-called "Long Depression" that lasted from 1873 to 1878. The purpose of the Association was to develop Pelham Manor lands as an exclusive and affluent railroad suburb of New York City.
